God’s Employees

Isaiah 49: 8-16

8Thus says the LORD:”In a time of favor I have answered you;
in a day of salvation I have helped you;
I will keep you and give you
as a covenant to the people,
to establish the land,
to apportion the desolate heritages,
9saying to the prisoners, ‘Come out,’
to those who are in darkness, ‘Appear.’
They shall feed along the ways;
on all bare heights shall be their pasture;
10they shall not hunger or thirst,
neither scorching wind nor sun shall strike them,
for he who has pity on them will lead them,
and by springs of water will guide them.
11And I will make all my mountains a road,
and my highways shall be raised up.
12Behold, these shall come from afar,
and behold, these from the north and from the west,
and these from the land of Syene.”

13Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth;
break forth, O mountains, into singing!
For the LORD has comforted his people
and will have compassion on his afflicted.

14But Zion said, “The LORD has forsaken me;
my Lord has forgotten me.”

15“Can a woman forget her nursing child,
that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb?
Even these may forget,
yet I will not forget you.
16Behold,I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are continually before me.

A beautiful scripture! God shows us that He cares for us and that He had a plan for us when He ‘employed’ us!  The plan He had is to keep us and give us as a covenant to the people, to establish the land and to apportion the desolate heritages.

The covenant to the people. God’s covenant to us, the salvation, grace and love He has for us all. God allows us to come before Him and accept the covenant God offers us, so we can enjoy it and live in the peace and light of God.

The interesting thing of this part of the scriptures is that is speaks of people from all regions, all circumstances AND the people that come from Syene (also known as Aswan).

In the time this scripture is written Syene was an important military and trading center, known for the many stone quarries in the area. It also is one of the first settlements of Egypt. The remarkable thing about Syene is that it is one of the driest places on earth. You could say it’s like ‘Hell on earth’.

Also from Syene there are people who close the covenant with the Lord. People who have seen the most barren, dry, darkest the most desolate places of the world.

Isn´t that a wonderful thing God tells us?! God tells us, long before Jesus came to earth, that people from all the places on this earth come and turn their backs from the dark, most barren places of the earth and turn to God and go out to tell the world of His majesty.

Where I want to go with this, is that God employed us to convert people to God. You’re probably thinking: ‘Why? There are so many people doing that already!’

Well, why not?! Someone helped you in getting to know God so why wouldn’t you do this amazing favor to someone else?

You are in service of the Lord! God put you in His service as an employee when you became a follower of Him and He will lead you on the paths He laid out for you, giving you the help you need. (verse 10 – 11)

People don’t  know the gospel..  Verse 14 – But Zion(and the people) said, “The LORD has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me.” But what says the Lord in response to this?

Verse 15 – 16:

15″Can a woman forget her nursing child,
that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb?
Even these may forget,
yet I will not forget you.
16 Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are continually before me.

God doesn’t forget anybody! But the people don’t know and someone has to tell them! So if you are the only Christian in you environment, tell others what you’ve been told at one point in your life! God knows everyone; your walls are continually before Him… You are continuously before God’s eyes and the person next to you as well!  Give them the choice of their own to accept God in their lives and make them familiar with the gospel!

God will make sure they won’t be hungry of thirsty anymore. We can graze everywhere, even on barren lands. God protects us from every single thing, even though we don’t always feel like we’re being protected. When you lead people to the cross, you can feel attacked and alone. You can feel down because everything is going wrong, because people don’t understand you, because people won’t listen to what you have to say. God promises you, that, also you will lead people by spring of water.  He promises you, that he will make every mountain a road and your highways shall be raised up to lead people by springs of water and making them know with the gospel, God’s promise and His covenant to people.

I want to ask you and encourage you to read Isaiah 49, a nice chapter in the scriptures with loads of promises to us as servants of God.

Let’s also pray for each other and ourselves that we may receive the freedom, boldness and knowledge to share our faith and tell people about God’s promise for them.
